A Good Idea

Description

The Growing Healthy Kids Project is a community gardening project that provides gardening space to local children and their families. The program teaches families about nutrition, healthy eating, and outdoor activity, while promoting quality family time. The program provides guidance and support in planting, growing and harvesting the garden. In addition, family-oriented cooking classes are offered. The program publishes a monthly community garden newsletter with gardening tips, recipes, and upcoming events. Growing Healthy Kids is sponsored by the Orange County Partnership for Young Children and is funded by the North Carolina Health and Wellness Trust Fund.

Goal / Mission

The aim of the Growing Healthy Kids Project is to support nutrition, healthy eating, and family unity among local families by providing community gardening space.

Results / Accomplishments

The Growing Healthy Kids Project has guided more than 25 families in growing their own fruits and vegetables, and currently has three community gardening sites.
